Cubismo

I know, I’m supposed to be a musician, so what’s all this programming lark about. Well actually I used to do it for while way back in the 80s but I never thought  I‘d travel this path again.  Had it not been for the appearance of the iPhone I doubt that I would have done. This little device came along and ‘changed everything’ as Apple would tell us. It certainly changed a few things around here (like the amount of time my guitar has spent in it’s case).

Cubismo is an implementation of a classic 3D puzzle called the Soma cube. I was first introduced to it when I was a kid and had forgotten all about it until earlier this year when I saw a set of the old wooden blocks in a junk shop. I’d only just bought an iPhone and I found myself wondering if it would work on a touch screen....... cut to 9 weeks later. I’m actually pretty pleased with the way this little app turned out. Hope you like it too.

I’m finding rotation difficult to understand, how does it work?

In order to rotate a piece it must be selected (flashing) and you must touch on the background

(i.e. NOT on a piece) and drag in the direction you wish to rotate. If you keep your finger down you’ll notice that a rotating arrow appears. This represents the direction the piece will rotate when you lift your finger. If you continue to keep you finger down you can change this direction with a circular gesture. If you imagine a hexagon around your initial point of contact then the 6 points on it’s circumference represent the 6 available rotation directions. This sounds complicated but once you’ve got it it becomes completely instinctive and you’ll find you’re doing it so quickly you’ll barely even notice the arrow. BTW if the arrow is on screen and you decide you don’t want to rotate after all just add a second finger to the touch and it will disappear. Video

I’ve completed a few levels but i want to see the tutorial again because I’m still not clear on some aspects of the game?

Sorry this is not possible in 1.0. It will be in the next update.

How do I move forwards and backwards?

There are 6 directions you can drag a piece in - up, down, forward left, backwards left, forwards right & backwards right. Sometimes it’s helpful to alternate the left/right diagonal to move forward or backward (a bit like ‘tacking’ in a sailboat).

Why do the pieces sometimes get so big?

The closer they are the bigger they are & vice versa.
